Artwork Description:

SHOAH (Screams Hinder Orpheus Ascending From Hades) is a semi-abstract painting. Price does not include shipment. Work demonstrates the importance of a works title, especially when poetry is interjected into art, because it forces both sides of the brain (the verbal and visual) to cooperate with each other; The results are. . . mind boggling. How could one not, look back, upon the SCREAMS of history. . . the screams that lurk within the lines and folds of this works design? This painting was inspired by PBSs airing of the film, SCHINDLERS LIST by Steven Spielberg. This film has become one of the most respected documents of Holocaust History in cinema, along with: NIGHT AND FOG (Alain Resnais, France, 1965); THE SHOP ON MAIN STREET (by Jan Kadar and Elmar Klos, Czech Republic, 1965; SEVEN BEAUTIES by Lina Wertmuller, Italy 1975; and indirectly, AY CARMELA!, By Carlos Saura, Spain, 1990. In my painting, we see the essence of Orpheus, as pale as a ghost, emerging from the underworld. . . from the concentration camps. If he turns around, he will lose his lover (in this case, the victims of fascism) forever. But he must turn around to look at the screams in order to come back to todays world to carry the story of what happened during WWII, least we NEVER forget. Why? Because history has a way of repeating its tragedies through humanitys blind hatred. I ask: Who will be the next classes of people to be slaughtered?
