Artwork Description:
Montserrat, a sacred mountain north of Barcelona, contains a monestary and church that holds one of the area's most important sculptural, spiritual icons, The Black Madonna of Montserrat. There are many interesting stories as to how this statue came to be in the Catalonian region of Spain, and all are worth investigateing on-line. Some claim that this was actually an Egyptian icon of Isis and Horus Christianized by the Cathars; other tales read like a DaVinci Code of the First Milennium. Still, if one ever has the opportuniy to visit Barcelona, it is most certainly worth a day trip to this nearby mountain to: see the small sculpture; sample the herbal liquers made by the local monks; and, to walk around the mountain's top and feel the vibrations of this very sacred space. This is a place of magic; one only need to smell the air here to know that this mountain top holds secrets that no book can impart.
