Artwork Description:
The image of Chairman Mao had been repeating glamorously portrayed with ultimate realistic style in order to reach its propaganda political agenda during Maos era. In fact, artists in China were only allowed to paint Mao's propaganda paintings exclusively in order to survive. After the open-up of China economy from 1990s, the Chinese art market has also linked to rise up tremendously. From the recent sale records from large auction houses, such as Christies and Sotheby, which showed record breaking sales of Chinese oil painting. Chinese oil painting has become the hot item in the art market. Not only the Chinese painting made by Chinese becomes hot, even the motif of Chinese has become popular. For instance, the Pop Art style silk screen print of Maos portrait by Andy Warhol has become very hot and sold for hundreds of millions. The booming of Chinese economy and stock market, Maos portrait has become like a Red Chip in the Chinese stock market. I portray Maos image in my painting with red background to reflect the red-hot art market of today.
