Artwork Description:
After a few days of reconnaissance in a maze of alleys where pedestrians, donkeys and carts graze each other, I was able to find a place and settle down in peace thanks to a shopkeeper. My sketchbook well filled, I returned to my cottage, improvised workshop, to finalize the composition by various sketches of the general atmosphere and setting in situation of some characters. I chose to saturate the ochre colours, the pink and red tones, in contrast to the blues and leave the drapes almost transparent caught in the light, in order to make this atmosphere of stifling heat.
