Artwork Description:
I wanted to produce a painting that casts a light on the refugee crisis and the terrible suffering that the refugees have had to endure. The portrait is of a Syrian Boy who is now living in a Turkish refugee camp but it could also be of an Iraqi boy or a Jordanian boy…
It was really important to me that I show the devastating contradiction between the beautiful innocence of childhood and the destruction of the bombings inflicted by a foreign country.
The conversation between the bomb and the Syrian Boy captures the micro second when the bomb lands and is about to explode. The bomb does not have the time for conversation whilst the boy has accepted the brutality of the world that he has grown into.
Ultimately as the bomb states “Time is Money”. I am happy to announce that 30of all the proceeds of the sale will go to charity. The charities that I donate to are The Innocence Project based in the US and New Hope based in the UK. The Innocence Project’s mission is to free the staggering number of innocent people who remain incarcerated, and to bring reform to the system responsible for their unjust imprisonmentwww. innocenceproject. org. New Hope exists to serve individuals who are homeless or vulnerably-housed through the provision of accommodation and opportunities to transform liveswww. newhope. org. uk
