Artwork Description:
space and time. how to capture them in two dimensions? the mind capturing frame after frame and feeding us the illusion of a continuous film. our erroneous sense of I giving rise to our life history. the experience of a single moment as if time had stopped... had it ever really moved?
my meetings with lima de freitas would eventually lead me to india and the tibetan plateau in 1987. after returning from india i ventured on to working larger surfaces of canvas and board and slowly shifted from watercolour to oil and acrylic. the first works to become manifest continued to be representations of nature but by then something had changed. we no longer are given to see the whole picture but fragments or flashes of a scenery. these fragmented views were shown in a 2 one-man shows, the first at a janela verde gallery in lisbon in 1988, the second at siemensforum in lisbon in 1990.
