Artwork Description:
Thats the word I found after trying to figure out what the word is for the psychological activity of transforming vague patterns and imagery into relevance - like imagining shapes in the clouds.
Other examples of pareidolia include the man in the moon, the constellations, the Rorschach inkblots, the face on Mars, and images of religious figures in ordinary phenomena.
Pareidolia is the inspiration behind many of my paintings, and the reason why you and I see common and different things in abstract paintings like this one. The activity challenges us to think about how we perceive what we perceive. I find the exercise entertaining and key to the value of art in the human experience.
