Artwork Description:
No. 17 in the bib overalls and white T-shirt series which was begun in 1994. Signed on Aug. 1, 2012. Randall is a construction manager and a master carpenter and woodworker presently teaching wooden boat-building at the American School in Tunis, Tunisia. Using a famous surrealisit's easel (probably brought from Europe around the beginning of WW II in Sept.,1939) as a rough model, Randall designed and created a much larger and better version out of red oak lumber from the Posner property in Perry County, Indiana. There are two inlaid brass plaques, one on each of the two main uprights. One says, "ars longa, vita breva." The other says, Made by Randall Kleeman for Lou Posner, May 1, 2003. The easel will rise to a height of 11', and it has trays 34.5" wide. Paintings can be mounted on either side of the easel and can be mechanically tilted outwards to eliminate glare on a canvas. Two opposite crank handles operate a threaded worm gear assembly to raise and lower canvases. The easel is a one-of-a-kind masterpiece and the first easel ever built by Mr. Kleeman. His other interests--including literature, music, fishing, travel, motorcycling, etc.--range far and wide. He can master anything. He is a genius.
