Artwork Description:
Painted not too long after I returned from duty in Vietnam: August, 1970. It was painted in the garage studio of artist Tony Vestuto, Bloomington, Indiana. The button on the blue chambray shirt is a Vietnam Veterans Against the War button. The construction posts for Tony's Brettony Fine Arts Studio building can be seen out the window. Ann Woldy used the red cans of Nazdar ink to silkscreen fine art prints. I was angry. The painting was eventually removed from the walls of the National Vietnam Veterans Art Museum in Chicago because it was not combat related. I became more angry. Any visible scratches are owing to damage that occured while the painting was in the care of the National Vietnam Veterans Art Museum, Chicago. NFS. Vietnam? Who cares? But Vietnam never dies: now Vietnam has migrated to Afghanistan. The lessons never get learned. Never. We are a stupid species.
