Artwork Description:

Soon after this wedding reception for a friend of hers, Mary Munchel--19 years old in the white blouse and blue skirt--was to become the head of the Ball State University (Indiana) Vietnam Moratorium Committee, dedicated to peaceful efforts to end the Vietnam War. In 1970 she met an anti-war Vietnam vet, and we have been together ever since. The thoughtfulness of the young lady in this image has always haunted me, as if she was a having a foretaste of the weighty responsibilities and consequences of the position she would shortly assume. My heroine.
