Artwork Description:

I occasionally played tenor banjo in this Bloomington, Indiana, jug band in the 1970's. Uncle Bill Livers was a black fiddler from Kentucky whose grandparents had been slaves. Arthur Heckman was a local singer-songwriter who played guitar and mouth-harp. The members of the permanent band were Jim Robertson (mandolin), Grouser Selvaggi (washtub bass), Gregg Coffey (washboard, etc.), Howard Vogel (rhythm guitar. We used to play Rap's Pizza Parlour in Bloomington, and, during breaks, help ourselves to the pizza leftover from college guys whose dates didn't want to appear piggish, thereby leaving most of the pizza uneaten. Hard times. Good times.
