Artwork Description:

Oil on canvasboard. Two friends of mine, ballet dancers, roomed with actor Patrick Swayze in New York City when Swayze was just getting started in acting. They all lived in this seedy apartment and inherited this seedy, ratty stuffed chair from the last tenant. When the three moved out of the apartment, my friends transported the chair to the garage of two parents out in the country near Bloomington, Indiana, where the chair moldered further for many years. Finally, on July 24, 1999, a huge bonfire was laid, with the chair at the apex, and, with the music, I Heard It Through the Grapevine, blaring and attendees imbibing, the chair met its end in a fiery inferno. The artist was of course there to record the event in his sketchbook and later produced this painting. The style is the artists original variant on the Hermetic Cubism of 1910-12. Inscribed at bottom edge The Burning of Patrick Swayzes Chair on July 24, 1999. Custom framed in Manhattan Black. Documentation on the Swayze connection available to buyer.
