Oil on collage on canvas. A few years ago I pasted down this printed lable onto a painting i was painting, and then I turned it upside down and continued working on it. The label once read : Australian Pines. Now all that shows of that is: LIAN PI. [ upside down ] Read on and I will demonstrate how my words about painting continue to not quite grasp this subject ! The process of creating this work enables me to understand the astonishing gestural city-scape abstractions of the contemporary British painter FRANK AUERBACH, and now I can visually grasp the 1945 JACKSON POLLOCK pastel and enamel on paper,[ UNTITLED, 25 9/16 x 20 1/2, Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection, Lugano ] I have a postcard of this Polack painting..
