Artwork Description:
2007, Oil on Masonite board, thick cradled. 16x 20. Unframed. In trying to figure out where I got the idea for this piece, I think it came from a recent movie called, Black Snake Moan, although at the time I wasnt conscious about its possible inspiration; or it could be my long time admiration of the works of Hajime Sorayama. Whatever the inspiration, it was fun to try to render cold metallic objects against warm skin tones. In searching for large size metal chains, I soon discovered the cost for this prop would be expensive. Luckily, I came across a local hardware store weekend sale, and was able to purchase the 3/8 utility chains for a reasonable price. The chains were so heavy; I had to help the model, Lindsay, to place them. The first few shots did not come out as I planned, but with her help and interpretation of my idea, we were able to create the right pose. In my other works I never rendered her tattoo, however it seemed appropriate this time. The turquoise mark on her hip adds interest.
