Artwork Description:
This is one of the older works I still have in my collection. It is not for sale, but it shows what kind of work I (can/will) make. This is an (imaginary) portrait of Rabbi Israel Baal Shem Tov (the 'Besht', the Master of the Good Name, born in 1698. He is the founder of the Chassidic movement in Eastern Europe, and my inspiration for Chassidic paintings. His stories have been brought to the attention of the general audience by e. g. Martin Buber, now there are numerous works about him. The Baal Shem is one of the greatest Rabbis who ever lived.
