Artwork Description:
The Golem of Prague 2.
This is another big painting about the golem, see also the description of the first work in his website). It shows Rabbi Loeb at work with kabbalistic formulas, and the artist and some of her students telling stories at the steps near the Alte Neue Shul, where according to the legend the clay remains of the golem are hidden in the attic. The golem himself balances on the tefillin of his creator, upside down at the bottom is the other world of death and of the supernatural, with the tombstone of Rabbi Loeb, and on the right is the Charles Bridge with its statues and a raging pogrom: this was the reason why the rabbi made a golem in the first place. Over the window in the shul one can still see the letters dlmao, Know before Whom you stand, which the Rabbi must have had in mind when he was making a creature, a golem. This painting inspired many others. Ask me for details.
