Artwork Description:
This painting is a product of the artists imagination with additional features that are real. This is the lighthouse which marks a well known navigational hazard called The Needles that lie off the South coast of the Isle of Wight, UK (also in the painting). The yacht is very loosely based on Velsheda, a J Class yacht, but only in as much as I had some assistance with the set and pattern of the sails. It is called Squall because it captures that moment just before the sails must be reefed. This allowed dramatic licence with the spray from the bow and hull. The sea has been rendered almost entirely in impasto using a selection of knives.
This painting is now in New York care of Artisan Direct Ltd, 82 Callingham Road, Pittsford, NY.
