Artwork Description:
As I visited Cam Croft at his framing studio one lunchtime, his work partner Rod Denson wore an amazing hat under the midday sun. Both men had Hawaiian shirts under their work aprons, and I suggested that I paint their portrait.
As they accepted the idea, and for added fun, I asked to include their dog the well-named Wrex, fierce guardian of the studio.
I experimented on and off with various compositions, but didnt like them enough.
Then Wrex died, and a tribute to the devotion and friendship between the three of them became timely. A postcard found in my drawers Le repas by Gauguin, helped me to bring it all together.
In addition, I wanted to portray Cam and Rods generosity of spirit, joie de vivre and bonhomie
