Artwork Description:

This unique, original work -- which ships to the buyer with a mat and frame -- combines the genres of printmaking and painting. This mixed media study started with an earlier printmaking proof, which the artist recently enhanced with gouache and watercolor. NARRATIVE This scene was based on a snapshot taken by the artist when he was ten years old. It shows the neighborhood in which he was raised in South Camden, New Jersey, one of the most poverty stricken cities in the US. The view depicts Atlantic Avenue at Broadway looking east. The background shows a bathtub factory, other abandoned industrial spaces, a junkyard, railroad trestle, and the steeple of Saint Joseph’s Polish American church, which his Great Grandfather helped found and build. Humorous Note-- The Venus Bath Tub factory closed in 1974 and became a gay bath house. To create this lyrical and intimate work, the artist employed three individual zinc plates to create one image in this etching. DiFalco accomplished this by executing three etched plates n Nitric acid baths and then placing them together on the press bed. Each plate measured 4 inches high x 3inches wide, which makes the image slightly larger than 4 inches high by 9.5 inches wide. Media includes a blend of etching inks and STONEHENGE cream-colored paper. The painted etching was then cut into three separate pieces of paper, which were adhered to another piece of natural paper.
