Artwork Description:
Magnified segments of a face are repeated and appear to be looking at each other. Reflection catches a different part of a face with each movement, whether large or small, and the star-like structure of the mirror gives the impression that all the parts are merging together. Permeating. There is a need for the face (or 'I', as the work is a self-portrait) to coalesce, both in the visual and psychological sense. This gives both the individual and the society as a whole a slightly schizophrenic atmosphere. On the other hand, it becomes clear that the individual is whole, and that it is in fact the distorted mirror which causes the distorted image.
