In summer 2009 I was invited to represent Cyprus at a stone carving symposium in the mountain village of Vattis in Switzerland. When not carving I made drawings of the beautiful landscape all around me. The village is situated in a deep river valley with high mountains on all sides. One day I looked up and saw a hang glider leap from the summit of one of the mountains. I thought of Icarus and made this oil pastel on paper.
