  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Katie Pfeiffer - My goal or artistic process is to examine personal relationships and feelings in a humorous way using a multitude of imagery from everywhere. I like to mix up my drawing and paintings with found imagery to create something new. I look to imagery made for children ( especially school primers from the 50s and 60s) as well as stickers to express my naive and child like look at "Adult" subjects. Exploring mysteries of my own desires as well as comment on the stereotypes which exist in female and male relationships. I want my art to envelope the viewer with color, humor and feeling. In the past few years I have started to explore the relationship of light and dark and the association with positive and negative emotions as well as make several collections of "ugly" paintings with text which explore my personal relationship with men, family and people in my life. All my art is original and I do not list prints or copies of my work. Most of my paintings are done in inks or acrylics. ...

Neil Howe - You might say I am a post-postmodernist, my art is eclectic, I borrow from contemporary electronic media and from the past to create new digital images. The images I create I call 'BODYSCAPES', that is, landscapes of the human body and it's social condition. These BODYSCAPES are created in the computer through a process where photographic images of the human body, either photographed by the artist or sourced and collaged from the public domain, are transformed into a simulated landscape that is richly varied in form and texture, in essence a virtual 3D matrix populated with simulated organic forms which in part are influenced by Bill Brandt's enigmatic figures in the landscape and Man Ray's experiments with light and form. These landscapes of the body, while synthetic, deliberately remind the viewer of forms and textures from the natural world but at the same time confound with unexpected surrealism prompting questions like, where is the light coming from? Is it a body part or a rock form? So BODYSCAPES are about landscapes in and of the body, this concerns both form and meaning encompassing social politics as well as politics of the body. In other words I ...

Paul Litherland - Artist Statement - Paul Litherland Paul Litherland is a visual artist/performer living in Montreal. Primarily a photographer and producer of multimedia performances, Litherland works with themes of vulnerability, masculinity and ideas pertaining to how communications take place. His relationship to technology, one of simultaneous attraction and rejection is a constant underlying theme in all of his photo-based work. In life, as in his art, Litherland is compelled to create situations of physical and psychological danger. Finding ways to go through fear without panicking is a game of self-control that he enjoys on an almost daily basis. This desire to live an intense experience, as seen through his participation in the extreme sports of skydiving, motorcycling, BASE jumping and boxing is translated directly into his art practice. Litherland pinpoints these difficult, complex and sometimes cumbersome situations as mediums for direct and honest communications. His most recent works include multimedia productions and photographic projects such as: Art Photography, a photographic project inspired by the information that accompanies an artwork when it is photographed badly. It was developed while in residence in Mexico City. Most recently, the projects BOX, and ASCII Fighter, are boxing performances created for Le Rencontre Internationale ...

Amit Bar - In 1950 I was born in Kibbutz Kfar Hamaccabi, Israel, where I lived until 1988. As a kibbutz-member I was not able to take a complete study at an art-college. Therefore I followed evening-lessons drawing for many years. In 1984 I finally got the permission to study creative art at the university. My study at the university of Haifa was combined with Comparative Literature and took three years. I have learned there a lot about various forms of Creative Art. As follows, I decided to dedicate my interest on photography. My final project was children photography. Since 1988 I live in Doetinchem, The Netherlands, and work as a freelance-photographer and painter. In my commercial work I take photographs for a stock agency and make commissioned work. Wishing to combine my photography with drawing and painting, I began to mix them in my artistic work. It began in 1992 with photo collages and took another form in 1996 with body-paintings. Thank you very much for your visit. I wish you lots of pleasure on my gallery and my site, at www.amitbar.com! Amit Bar....

Einav Zilber - As an art lover, I want to see art not only in the museum or gallery but rather see art in my daily surroundings of where I live. Be it the hair dresser, a book shop, a cafe or the local launderette. I think there's something exciting about being able to see art everywhere, stop for a moment (or more) from the days' work and hectic life we live, to look and explore new realms of creation and give me another look and maybe even a glimpse to the creativity and life of others. This idea had been on my mind for a while, bit by bit I could see it come to life in Tel Aviv, where I live, not just the events the municipality make, but rather small initiatives. As a photographer it gives me a lot of space to enjoy and create. I call it Art Around. ...
