Artists Describing Their Art:

Ann Langdon - ARTIST'S STATEMENT Ann R Langdon has been cutting and shaping canvas for many years, moving from stretchers to her more recent wall hangings. She is a colorist who also loves texture and tension. Both her paintings and prints have won many awards across the country and have been exhibited throughout the United Staes as well as in Kenya, Hungary and the Czech Republic. Her works are included in various public and private collections. Langdon has a BA from Connecticut College where her studies began in the sciences. As she moved into Fine Arts, her interest in substructures moved with her. Dissection of a laboratory animal became dissection of a canvas in search of the underlying truth of the creative spirit. Langdon also holds an MA with a focus on Art from Wesleyan University. "I have long been fascinated with texture and surface: texture as reflecting something organic; surface as covering over an unseen structure or personality. I combine this tactile element with my long-standing search for a visual representation of the human psyche, the human spirit--especially as such images relate to women and their life experiences. In my canvas works, I felt I was piercing an emotion, ...

Ann Langdon - Celeste Mccullough - I tend to lean towards the visual as opposed to the technical aspect of the creative process. When I'm taking pictures, I never look at the shutter speed, f/stop, etc. I strive to find that hidden gem of artistic expression hidden in the mundane, chaotic, and grittiness. I have a keen ability & vision to discover the beauty in what most of us discard. I'm drawn to landscapes and the elements that surrounds them, creating photographic work that reflects the mysterious and haunting atmospheres they hold. I believe everything has a story; through abstract and still life photography, I am able to tell it....

Bruno Paolo Benedetti - Bruno Paolo Benedetti, born in the year 1954, began to take pictures, studying perspective and photo techniques, in the year 1968. Since the begin he was concerned with black and white photography, observing the contrast s of the nature, the lights and interpreting the reality around him. When he was 25 he began to work in the dark room, enhancing his technique using filters, high contrast films for making his first pictures of surreal and abstract photography. At the same time he began journeying around Europe and the world: India, Nepal, Bhutan, Southern America, South Africa, Egypt, Comoros islands are some of the most visited places. The study of the religions, the mysticism in all of them, inspired his artistic production, especially his surreal photography, where cultural and religious archetypes are depicted. The abstract non objective photography is the other branch of his work. It starts from the observation of the nature in all its manifestations: water, lights, colors, shores, flowers, ice All the colors are not elaborated and strictly natural, highlighting hidden particulars and changing the images into fluid shapes, where each watcher can see new images created by his emotions and fantasy. In both styles of pictures the ...

Katie Pfeiffer - My goal or artistic process is to examine personal relationships and feelings in a humorous way using a multitude of imagery from everywhere. I like to mix up my drawing and paintings with found imagery to create something new. I look to imagery made for children ( especially school primers from the 50s and 60s) as well as stickers to express my naive and child like look at "Adult" subjects. Exploring mysteries of my own desires as well as comment on the stereotypes which exist in female and male relationships. I want my art to envelope the viewer with color, humor and feeling. In the past few years I have started to explore the relationship of light and dark and the association with positive and negative emotions as well as make several collections of "ugly" paintings with text which explore my personal relationship with men, family and people in my life. All my art is original and I do not list prints or copies of my work. Most of my paintings are done in inks or acrylics. ...

Neil Howe - You might say I am a post-postmodernist, my art is eclectic, I borrow from contemporary electronic media and from the past to create new digital images. The images I create I call 'BODYSCAPES', that is, landscapes of the human body and it's social condition. These BODYSCAPES are created in the computer through a process where photographic images of the human body, either photographed by the artist or sourced and collaged from the public domain, are transformed into a simulated landscape that is richly varied in form and texture, in essence a virtual 3D matrix populated with simulated organic forms which in part are influenced by Bill Brandt's enigmatic figures in the landscape and Man Ray's experiments with light and form. These landscapes of the body, while synthetic, deliberately remind the viewer of forms and textures from the natural world but at the same time confound with unexpected surrealism prompting questions like, where is the light coming from? Is it a body part or a rock form? So BODYSCAPES are about landscapes in and of the body, this concerns both form and meaning encompassing social politics as well as politics of the body. In other words I ...
