  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Corrie Ancone - Artist statement : "I don't care for the certainty of what's in front of my lens, but the creativity, the fantasy, the invention, that can gush from a thought before or thereafter. Between the certain and the uncertain there is a possible space, as in dreams and fables. Heavily influenced by mythology, nature and the techniques and working styles of the early European Dadaists, Impressionists and Baroque artists, my creativity stems from my lust for finding and exploring sympathies between the human body, the landscape and its textures. Oscillating between transparency and opacity, colours and images collide in my work, creating new visual and emotional images, often painterly and somewhat surreal, which affect perceptions of natural reality. This is sometimes described as 'synthetic realism'." Corrie Ancone ...

Sandra Maarhuis - For more information about Sandra Maarhuis and to see a online show of all her artworks visit the website: www.sandra-maarhuis.exto.org Info Paintings and Photocollages: Sandra Maarhuis was born in 1972, in Rotterdam. In 2001 she graduated from the Art Academy of Kampen. It was there that she mastered her painting skills. After graduating, the Dutch Art Institute offered her a place in their Master of Fine Arts course. During this two year course she was taught by Peter Struyken and Emo Verkerk, and she obtained her Master's Degree in 2003. Apart from commissioned works and the sale of her work, her main ambition is to further develop her free artwork. A recurring theme in her visual art is the beauty that is concealed in everyday life. In awe of detail, situation or people. And this admiration is the start of each of her paintings. By painting in a figurative-bordering on realistic-way, she is able to portray the subject as recognizable as possible. The final goal is to let the painting exceed the picture. To be captivated first before realising it's a "picture in a frame". Sandra has a new working space ( atelier) ...

Bernhard Luettmer - The project is to create the image with a short composition as I wanted at times I took in here. Timing and movements of the camera or the machinery are important resources. Photography is listen to the world as we hear a beloved piece of music. For example: I see a tree just in vegetation, the wind gentle caresses the new leaves, the light shines and you hear all this on the skin. Now take a picture with the knowledge that this concentration and on the negative is something of the feeling....

Bernhard Luettmer - Thomas Gulla - Tomasz Gulla is a lawyer and photographer from Poland. In my 7-year career I had exhibitions in Hamburg, Vienna, Gdansk, Gdynia and Lodz. In addition, I have publications in international journals and books. Photography is my great passion, a springboard from dullness of everyday life, the field where I look for a different view of reality. I try to create something new as well as go beyond the patterns. I am interested in seeking abandoned places (palaces, factories, churches) in order to make them vivid in my photographs and go back in time. I will soon broaden my artistic field of interest by metalwork. ...

Peter J Crowley - Thirty five years of seeking the highlight. Thirty five years of self portraits. Visual questions and verbal images. Always asking Why? "How does a visual person define his life and work in words?" The soul of the artist is held in the negatives, every shot is a self portrait." -PJC Why? I have spent the last year or maybe more reflecting on my work over the thirty or so years I have been shooting. It is, at times, surprising and then not surprising at all that the actual images over the last years have been reflections. Why? I will let you know when I am sure. As a young artist there is so much new information to learn and teachers to please. Accepting that an image is cool is enough to make you strive to create more. There is no "Why", just on to the next assignment. At what point do you become an artist? How does one define the soul of an artist? My work, I hope, stimulates thought. I hope that my writing does also. I try not so much to offer answers, but to offer questions. Why? The more often you ask Why, the more you will ...
