Artists Describing Their Art:
Mary Anne Mitchell - Mary Anne Mitchell is a fine art photographer who has worked as an artist and commercial photographer for over 20 years. Much of the recent photographic artwork reflects her desire to document images in a manner that connects the viewer to a moment that is often experienced by all, but very seldom stated in a photograph. Her current series of black-and-white, sepia-toned photographs is a collection of transient moments photographed via rearview mirror. The photographs aim to connect the viewer with the universal longing to capture fleeting instances in time. These were exhibited at Mason Murer Fine Art in Atlanta, Ga. in April and May of 2007. Mitchell's work is permanently on display at The Sanctuary Hotel in Kiawah, SC. This series suggests the human element through its absence in abandoned ruins, ornate fences, empty doorways, gardens, and deserted shorelines. Ellen Spijkstra - I am not interested in telling a story. I will not try to give a complete overview. I hope to make people more aware of the beautiful images around them; the interesting shapes of the weathered (coral) stones on the beach, how the reflection of a ship colors the water, a detail of a monument, or the pattern of a leaf. I am fascinated by material. The process of erosion and damage. The contrast between skins. I make use of this in rhythmic compositions or forms. In my photographs you can see I am a ceramist at heart. ...
