Artist Statement and Bio:
I am an artist who uses mixed media in abstract and semi-abstract art, (With some portraiture). My background in art was rooted in my family, which has a long line of woodworking artisans. Both my Grandfathers were adept woodworkers and creativity runs through my family with artists both in my immediate family, extending thru both my close and distant relatives. In my youth I was instructed in oil painting and have been creating work since I was 10 years old. After traveling the world during my time in the U.S. Marines, I came home and began revisiting my interests in art. Combining all that I knew from my skills as a woodworker and oil painter I began my journey. My art reflects the aesthetic of both woodworking and painting. Most of my canvas's are built from wood or wood panel and showing the building process is a part of the aesthetic. Textures from sanding, aging and weathering techniques are part of my processes as well. If you think I missed something in not hiding where the nails are, you would be mistaken. And even though I may be creating an image with perspective, I donít want you to forget that I am really creating an object and not just an illusion.
I was mentored by a local Dallas artist and educator for 10 years in seclusion, and have been showing publically now for 10 years. As I move thru life, my art is always with me, marking my past and providing me hope for the future. I am currently regrouping after a prolonged absence from the public. I will be releasing more current work in the summer of 2012
