Artist Statement -

Joyce attended the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. After heartbreak from the loss of family members she moved to Florida in 2004. It was in Florida that Joyce began to perceive what she calls “visions” of colors and designs in her dreams. After a while she went out and bought some oil paint, brushes and canvases and put those visions to work. She is a self-taught artist. Her recurring theme is the female anatomy. Joyce believes inspiration comes from many forms via nature, film, novels or a smile. Joyce believes in the essence of what the masters like Modigliani and Picasso taught the world: a belief in your own creativity without limits or judgment.
Her work is abstract, minimalist and what she defines as sultry. Her color palette ranges from the subdued to vibrancy. She believes it’s unfortunate that most of the Masters did not live to see the life affirming appreciation of their work. With that she leaves you the quote above from another visionary:
" You do not have to be a Painter or Sculpture to be an Artist.
You may be a shoemaker.
You may be creative as such.
And if so, you are a greater artist than the majority of the painters whose works is shown in the art galleries of today”. "
- Alfred Stieglitz
