Born to an English mother and French father, Claire Petit is a self-taught painter who lives and works mainly in the East of France when she isn’t setting up her art studio overseas.
From 1989 she has traveled between France and the United States. She had her first solo show in 1999 at Gallery 24 in NYC. She met with Louise Bourgeois during her famous Sunday afternoons with artists in her Chelsea house. In 2004 her work was represented and exhibited at the Grant Gallery in Soho. In 2005 she left for Mexico, where she maintained a studio for three months in Oaxaca. From 2005 to 2010, her Childhood series was represented and exhibited by the Opera Gallery in New York City. During those years she regularly painted in New York. Since 2010 her work has been exhibited in Paris, Brussels, Luxembourg, Metz and Nancy where she lives. Her paintings and prints are part of many private and prestigious art collections in Europe and the United States.
