Artist Statement

In my work, I am looking for, and finding, metaphors to express the effects of American life on the emotions and psyches of those who live here. Recently, I have been concentrating on portraits and people painted on paper with acrylics. This allows me to push and pull the image, to overstate and erase, to leave traces of what has come before underneath what is fully exposed in the end. Over the years, I have developed a personal iconography, a style of brush-stroke and, essentially, my own personal visual language. This is exciting work for me to make....
