Extensive experience in shipping paintings around the world.

Initial inspiration for painting came from early studies of the impressionists, post-impressionists and the work of Turner. Generally my paintings stem from a variety of diverse landscape seen when travelling within Australia & to Europe.
Paintings have been acquired for collections in most States of the USA, Canada, UK, France, New Zealand, Singapore & in all Australian states.

Recently my painting of Edinburgh Castle was featured in the promotions for the US Television Series "I Married a Princess". Click on the painting for further information
Every few months, I issue an internet based preview of new work to existing collectors of my work and to those who have asked to be included. This provides those people who have supported me, with the opportunity to first see and buy new works at a discounted price. You are welcome to participate in these previews, by clicking on this link
Some thoughts about my painting aims.
My painting has developed more intuitively rather than from a well thought out plan of aims or intent. At one stage like many others, I did intend to create an artists statements of aims & work towards it. However, when I thought about I did not know where I wanted to go. I did not know enough to know what the destination was - I still don't.
I have an interest in many things and great enthusiasm for the expression of painting. So I found out what works for me is not about planning a journey but making the discoveries whilst on the journey. Like any journey one will hit dead ends, but will also find places and people who open eyes and minds.

I enjoy nature & some landscapes stay with one for ever. My landscapes are nearly always of places that I have been to and remember well. I think that one can continually keep re-expressing landscapes (or elements of them) in different ways to capture what makes them stay with you. It may be the light, the shape, the colour, the smell, the feel of the sun that attracted, but whatever it is - it is a memory or feeling of something (perhaps intangible) in the past that drives one to portray an image in the present.
The aim of these paintings is to capture a sense of the colour and ambiance of the area, rather than an absolutely literal representation of a particular place. Sometimes they are painted literally. but others go back to memory and the feeling ones has now of that memory.

For example my series of large poppy paintings comes from memories of lying in long grasses and wildflowers as a child, feeling the sun and smelling the fresh scented air.

The lavender fields come from trips & past memories, but there are also strong design elements.
The rows of lavender (like grape vines) allows one to take the viewers eye to the right places in the painting. They also show the mark of humanity on the landscape - in a positive way.
Some of the paintings take years to emerge after I have been to a place, and generally I seem to paint places where I am not, when I paint it. There seems to be a period of "fermentation" before the emergence of the urge to paint an image.

Lately I am developing a greater interest in figurative work that acts a narrative. I think that is because I am becoming more interested in the interactions between people and want capture the narrative that is occurring in the drama of life.

So I have no abstract celebral messages to recount with my paintings. All they want to say is: "I am here, I see & observe this, it affected me, I hope I can get it to affect you".
I believe these were the messages of many of my favourite painters and I liked what they saw.
