My interest in creating artwork began when I received a Strathmore drawing pad and Mr. Sketch scented markers as a gift from my dad in the 3rd grade. I went on to study fine art and graphic design at V.C.U., where I earned a B.F.A. in Communication Arts & Design. I then moved to N.Y. City and worked as a graphic designer and art director at a record company, newspaper publisher, an ad agency, and the Metropolitan Transit Authority. I continued drawing and also built chessboards, which I sold at specialty chess shops in the West Village. The lack of nature in my urban lifestyle led me to leave my graphic design career and I began landscaping instead. In this new line of work I met a former Nantucket gardener who helped me move to Nantucket where I could plant in the ground instead of on the rooftops of Manhattan.
In Nantucket I was commissioned to do charcoal drawings of local buildings, and I also began using old China from ”the Madaket Mall” and thrift stores to create mosaic art. After a year & a half I moved to San Francisco, a city I had always aspired to live in. There I continued working with mosaics and also colored glass. I enjoyed living out west, but missed the east and moved back to Nantucket in February of this year. Here I continue to create and exhibit my work in charcoal, oil pastels, acrylics and mosaics. I am employed as the Assistant Gallery Director at the Artists’ Association of Nantucket Gallery.
