JOHN BOOTH

John produces etchings and aquatints using the traditional fine art intaglio methods. He hand prints the etchings onto oversized laid paper and supplies the prints to you ready for trimming and framing.
The prints are sold in strictly limited editions and the printing plates are defaced once the edition has sold out, preventing any further prints from being made.

John Booth has been a practicing artist for the last thirty years. After graduating with an MA from the Royal College of Art he pursued a career as a film director for twenty years, travelling the world making documentaries, commercials and music videos. At the same time he painted oils and watercolours, holding shows in places as diverse as Lamu, Kenya, Miami, USA, and Athens, Greece.

More recently he has been concentrating on his printmaking, producing etchings and aquatints in limited editions.

John’s etchings fall into four categories:

Landscapes- inspired by the play of light, especially from clouds, on the English countryside;
Nudes – Figurative nudes drawn directly from life onto the etching plate;
Dream images – representing symbolic landscapes of the unconscious;
Abstracts - which explore the mark-making techniques unique to the processes of etching and aquatint.

The images are etched in acid baths into zinc or steel plates following the historic intaglio methods of the fine art printmaking tradition.
They are hand printed from the plate, indented into oversized Somerset Satin laid paper and delivered ready for trimming and framing.

John has had two Open House exhibitions in the Brighton Arts Festival, two of his works were selected for the 2005 Royal Academy Summer Show and he exhibited in the Affordable Arts Fair, London 2005.
