Artist Statement

Pam Griffin/Artist.I paint in acrylics, oils and watercolours. My work reflects New Zealand, uniquely the bush, the wildlife and mythical themes.I have great attention to detail and fine brushwork, with often a vein of humour and quirkiness as in my Pukeko series.I work with Trevor Heighway/Sculptor/partner on designs for sculpture commissions and our work can be viewed at www.artstonebone.com I take commissions for artworks and public murals. The NZ Pukeko bird inspires me to paint it humourously, they live in families and like us can be seen everywhere along our roads in NZ feeding and acting out their family dramas, they shreik, cackle, chirrup and scold and have great character. In the early days of colonial NZ and the rarity of varieties of childrens pets, orphaned pukeko chicks were often the children's pet providing much humour and exasperation as well.
