Artist Statement -

Affordable fine art! Etching is a unique tool that allows me to create labor intensive original pieces in appreciable yet limited quantities. The depth of contrast from the medium allows variation of tonal values that facilitates a wide breadth of experimentation in each print. The focus of my earlier artwork has been on the city of Boston and its environs.

Preliminary work was self-taught and utilized pen and ink and cro-quill in documenting Boston with drawings of the cityscape, the Public Gardens, the Esplanade and Beacon Hill. During the seventies I could be spotted in these locals with sketch book in hand and a bottle of ink standing by the ready. A business degree was obtained during the eighties which has allowed me enough financial freedom to rekindle my artistic initiatives under my own terms (i.e. without starving). Taking an early retirement from 38 years at Mass General Hospital I am now free to pursue my art and its sales through a new gallery i opened in February 2010. The Gallery on North and Main is at 246 Main Street, North Reading, Massachusetts.

Beginning formal artistic training in the fall of 1995, at Montserrat's School of Visual Art, I have transcribed my earlier works using the etching intaglio process under the
tutelage of Robert Beauvais and Haig Demarjian. Many of the newest works present a less refined and more free form of artistic expression. My current focus is on historic sites north of Boston and some works from the American Southwest. Visit my website at www.rawbin.com to view additional pieces or email me at rremrich@partners.org or please visit my gallery's website at thegalleryonnorthandmai.com or come on in to look at my works or some of the other artists i have on exhibit at the gallery.
