Artist Statement -

I have always been creative. My mother and grandfather were creative and I seem to have inherited those talents from them. Color fascinates me and colored glass is the best color anywhere. I took my first glass classes in college and have been making glass ever since then. A good day in my life includes being creative in some way. I love it when I spend time with my creative friends and we talk about our interests and pursuits in glass or other media.
The first glass items I made were for myself and my family. Soon, I began making glass art to give to my friends. You knew that you were a good friend if you had many pieces of my art glass. Friends doing shows, introduced me to selling my art glass and making enough to sell. So, I now make enough for friends, family and to sell. I often find myself taking a break from the task at hand, by going out and creating something with glass in the middle of another project. My outlook on life improves the more I create with glass. I will always love art glass and hope that you do, too.
People and nature are the subjects of her work. There is beauty all around us in nature. A tree with beautiful bark water flowers, plants and animals are all inspiring her to make more glass. People are the most diverse elements in her art glass. The way a face looks as emotions move across it, is something to capture in a glass sculpture. As a result, many of her pieces are designed to hang on a wall and be viewed from different angles. Smaller pieces are made with depth in them to represent feelings. She hopes that you enjoy art glass as much as she does.
Sandy lives in Fair Oaks, California near her two sons and their families. She completed her master’s degree at the University of Nevada, Reno and taught mostly at Sacramento City College for 25 years. In addition to art glass, she paints with watercolors, does needle-work, did batik, and makes all kinds of crafts. She likes to travel to other cities and countries, especially those with well-known glass artists who are willing to teach her new techniques.
