Alone in Paradise
The ‘Alone in Paradise?series is a distillate of my impressions, my reactions and my emotions experienced in my three year sojourn in the tropical paradise that is Mauritius. Living alone, even in a paradise island in the Indian Ocean, makes for some deep impressions on an imaginative mind. The solitude gave me a lot of time for introspection and soul-searching. I have, at every point, attempted to record the stimuli to my senses ?principally through my art, but also through my writings, my letters and my emails. The enclosed collection is not comprehensive and I hope to keep adding to it in the next few years.

About the Artist
Soutrik Kumar Das, born 23-07-1969, in New Delhi, India, is an architect by profession. He was recruited by the Govt. of Mauritius in April 2003 and spent 3 years in the paradise island as Advisor in the Field of Architecture.

His paintings are influenced by his experiences and reflect an individual style, drawing from contemporary and traditional art forms, Indian as well as Western. His métier of choice is oil, on canvas or on hardboard.
