In her works Victoria Velozo bridges reality and imagination painting realistic elements of nature, then overlays with contrasting collage. The artist uses symbolism drawing on her psychology degree to convey an unconscious positive message to the viewer.
“My style is very unusual and doesnt fit into the typical styles as I have blended contemporary ‘abstract’ oil painting with traditional ‘Realism’ watercolour which breaks many art rules
I delight in combining these genres as I love the softness of the watercolour in contrast to the vibrancy of the oil paint. I also enjoy the contrast of the realism with the abstract movement”.
“I believe that I am the only artist that is creating contemporary semi abstracts using realistic watercolour features such as birds and seed pods on Archival Arches watercolour paper which are then collaged onto a vibrant abstract oil painting. I often depict the Kangaroo Grass and Saltbush plains including its bountiful wildlife creates a connection of people through contemporary landscape paintings to bring about awareness of our unique environment in Australian.”
“Our National landscapes are places that capture the essence of our countries unique blend of flora and fauna. Now days the identity of all Australians is being influenced by our natural environment. People are growing aware of the need to protect our coral reefs, our forests and our grassland plains. Our environment is being discussed more and more because of its wonder and beauty to hope to express this rugged beauty in my unique art practice.”
