Whispering Angels® Art Studio
by: Karen J. Wassmer
These wall relief angel sculptures are comiled from old china and kitchen wares. China plates serve as a body or sometimes a halo for the head which has either a hand painted shell or wood carvedface. Forks, spoons, and various utensils represent arms and legs. All of these objects that the sculpture is created out of are from found objects, recycled materials and hand crafted carvings, paintings and metal work. Old, vintage textiles are used for additional accessories.
Formally a Land Surveyor I learned through researching property deeds
where old homesteads used to dump their glass and metal, and for years I collected these and in conjunction with other discarded glassware, metal and wood I found Whispering Angels were born. Without any formal art education my work is inspired from my own experiences.
What I hope my art work brings to the viewer is a smile, a bit of wonderment, and joy. Each sculpture is unique as the hearts and emotions of each viewer. My efforts are to give unwanted materials a rebirth that awakens the angel in all of us.
Sincerely,
