  • Artists Describing Their Art:

James Johnson - The basis of my work is the exploration of universal patterns of being common to everyone such as shadow, hero, or trickster. My interest in patterns of being is a fascination that we all share common behaviors or emotions that can be understood singularly. Each pattern of being may be expressed as a figurative sculpture of hand cast aluminum alloy at half-life scale. Patterns of being may be referenced with Jungian archetypes. My hope is to make patterns of being more visible and tangible...

Vladimir Volosov - I was born in 1937 in Leningrad, USSR (now St. Petersburg, Russia). My way to art was a lengthy one. Before becoming an artist, I studied for thirty years at the forefront of modern physics as a PhD scientist and professor, author more than 150 scientific articles in contemporary laser physics. Thirty years of strenuous scientific work on the front edge of modern physics gives me a deep feeling for the anxiety and unprotectedness of the world's beauty. The formula, "beauty saves the world" fits my own attitude. My creed is also embodied in the statement: "to have time to realize everything given to you by Nature." At the threshold of my fifties, I decided to live one more life, a new, alluring life of the free artist. I walked away from my established scientific career and completely devoted myself to painting. In 1991 I founded and headed the association "Light, Color and Art" to connect with scientists engaged in the arts. The main directions of my paintings are lyrical realism and abstract compositions. My paintings are about light, color, atmosphere and space. For me, the most important elements are light and color and their juxtaposition/nexus/meeting of...

Johann Van Den Noort - Dutch native, painter and artist JOHANN VAN DEN NOORT (Kampen 1940) has an undeniable bond with the sea and therefore maintains a unique position within the modern art world. His passion for the sea and the way this passion is visualized through his original art form, secures him a position in the ranks of today's art world. JOHANN VAN DEN NOORT's paintings summon feelings of sovereignty. An exuberance arising from meeting the elements and visually capturing an abstract image into an emotoinal reality. Wim van der Beek, arteditor. JOHANN VAN DEN NOORT dominates all technics in the art like: oilpaintings, watercolours, gouache, graphics, ceramics and sculptures. His total oeuvre consists of over 5000 pieces of art. There are a lot of publications from him by radio, TV, newspapers, artmagazines and catalogues. Most of his work found a way to important art-collections all over the world. In 2005 Johann van den Noort was decorated by the Dutch Queen as Knight of the Dutch Lion for his complete works ...

Yuming Zhu - I land my brush with the force of a giant rock splashing into the ocean. I am not looking for a beautiful painting, but to express Life itself. Painting is just like a stacking of passions. Painting is a method of striping myself naked and facing the truth of my inner emotion. I invite the viewer to experience through my paintings the joy of being alive right at this moment. I believe I can do lots of things, but painting and poetry are the best beloved channels to express my complicated emotions. Originally from Shanghai, Yuming began studying under the masters at a young age. After his BA from China, Yuming came to the States and graduated from Sonoma State University with his MA in 1991. Working in oils, pastels and ChineseSumi Watercolors, Yumings work is a unique blend of East meets West artistry. It is a style that Yuming refers to as Transism, in reference to the constantly evolving interests, which include observations on modern life, a love of music, and an exploration of his own unique heritage. I paint to achieve balance and harmony. Once I reach that, I will for sure break itaEUR aEURoeMy art is just...

Aniko Hencz - I have been drawing and painting ever since I could hold a pencil in my hand...Most of my works are inspired by nature, buildings and personal feelings which end in abstract or conceptual paintings and drawings - it all depends on my mood. My favorite technique is watercolor and ink, but I also like to paint with acrylic or oil. Another medium I create in, is digital art, where my works are the creations of my imagination. I like to experiment and learn new techniques, thus I ventured myself in creating jewelry. When Im not painting, I make one of a kind beaded and wire wrapped pendants. I sell my pieces worldwide, commission works are also welcome - contact me if you wish something special. ...

Helena Wierzbicki - I have always enjoyed art from an early age. This love of Art has stayed with me and developed and grown, and now, I cannot imagine wanting to do anything else. Making art, for me, is an innate response to the inner and outer worlds, and a balancing act between the intuitive and the considered. I am interested in exploring my natural abilities and enthusiasm for my commitment to do an art within my innermost thoughts and emotions. Shades of colors and lines turning images of beings into landscapes and symbols. My art is an evolving process, I take and represent only elements which are the essence of the imaginary being. I rely on my desires for beauty, poetics and seduction. "Every artist dips his brush in his own soul, and paints his own nature into his pictures." Henry Ward Beecher (1813 - 1887) ...

Engelina Zandstra - 'In the labyrinth of my thoughts there are many roads leading to the unknown' LANDSCAPES OF THE MIND Engelina Zandstra is a Dutch artist living in Amsterdam, Netherlands. My way of working is spontaneous. It starts with a concept, an idea in my mind, which is in most cases not well-defined. It can have its origin in the images that are stored in my imagination, or in the impressions of daily life. The paintings made in this way can be considered as'Landscapes of the mind', because they are reproductions of the ideas that are formed in my head. The style of the paintings can best be described as lyrical-abstract. Sometimes they are more figurative, at other times fully abstract. Colour is very important for me : the alchemy of colour. This defines for me the atmosphere of a painting. Usually I work in many thin layers of paint on top of each other. I let myself be guided by the forms and colours that develop during the process of painting. Each new layer gives inspiration for the following one, with new ideas. Because of the different layers and colours, the acrylic paint gets depth and character. Sometimes the...

Valda Fitzpatrick - I always wanted to learn how to paint, so I started by taking private art lessons. Shortly after, my first piece sold. After selling more pieces, my husband said, if you can sell these art pieces, why not go to the Ohio State University and study art. He figured if I can sell my first pieces, just think, how more effectively my future art could be. I decided to take his advise and signed up at the Ohio State University in Marion Ohio. This was the beginning of an exciting venture for me. In the meantime I was offered by the department to exhibit my work, to teach Adult Education Classes, to students of varying skill-levels in painting and drawing. 1976-1980. During that time, since1971, made art related speeches and given presentations. I graduated from Ohio State University. Bachelor of fine arts, painting and drawing, 1978 Bachelor Of Art Education 1980, Masters Of Arts, Supervision and Education Administration. After 9 years of teaching public schools, I continued my education at the Columbus College Of Art And Design , where I also learned the art of paper making. Currently I am a full time artist working from my studio, which ...
