  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Dave Martsolf - Dave Martsolf Dave Martsolf was born in 1949 in Kansas, moved to Western Pennsylvania in early childhood and at age 12 moved to New Hampshire where he resides today. MartsolfaEURtms father and grandfather were architects and his mother a professional photographer. Martsolf attended MIT and later UNH where he earned a degree in Fine Arts. His early work was influenced by the great masters and others such as the post-impressionists Miro, Matisse, Kandinsky, Klee, Picasso, and the surrealist Salvador Dali. Architectural instincts developed due to his close association with architecture in his youth. DaveaEURtms focus has been in visual arts his entire life. His style extends from realism to surrealistic to fantasy and abstraction. His work uses the mediums of oils, watercolors, inks and pencils, to the more technically-oriented media of computer-based art. Beginning in the late 80aEURtms Martsolf spent productive time with the tools of Bryce, Poser, KaiaEURtms Power Tools, and similar photo editing and photo manipulation products. He was creator, owner and artistic director of Damsel Software Group in the 1990aEUR2s as a producer and manufacturer of original content screen savers. Today, Dave has returned to handmade art. He continues ...

Kristin Garrow - Dream..Imagine..Inspire..Heal These words are a daily must in the life of my creations. Suffering from several disorders including Bipolar and Fibromyalgia I am constantly changing my routine to accommodate my own Art Therapy. What does this mean for you Who doesnaEURtmt like a little variety in their lives Through my works I am able to create many forms of art and utilize multiple mediums. I offer you the chance to have a piece of my world join yours in hopes it brings you as much joy as it did for me while creating. I am always trying something new and exploring my mind to give you a piece that reaches you on many levels. My work is an examination of the different paths life takes, and the ways we work through our everyday lives always searching for something. I hope to provide you with whatever you are searching for. To have that one work that truly speaks to you or simply makes you smile. ...

Pol Ledent - I am a self-taught artist. I was born in Belgium o, 23rd October 1952. I started painting in 1995 . I took some drawing lessons in the art academy in Dinant. I try to paint the landscapes of the countryside where I am living : the southern part of Belgium. Firts I took part in many collective exhibitions . Than, I had personal exhibitions in Rochehaut (Galerie La Potele), in Dinant (Galerie L'impression), in Paris (Rive Gauche Galerie Artimus) in Brussels (Galerie G-Loft).In 2004, I had three exhibitions, again In Rochehaut, galerie La Potele in May. Then, in September Exhibition Libr'art in Libramont. In November, Galerie Impression in Dinant. What people like most in my paintings are the colours. My art doesn't speak to the intellect but to the soul and to the feelings. Talink the risk to seem old fashioned , I would say it is rather romantic. I wish you much pleasure looking at my paintings. Pol Ledent ...

Paul Ivanchuk - Daydreaming every second. About 2 years ago gain in my opinion quite special ability to create pictures in my mind without any external source. Still learning how to maxymalize accuracy of visions. Some paintings are music the way I see it. Some my imagination. ...

Austen Pinkerton - Artists Statement Austen Pinkerton If I turn my mind to it very quickly I can come up with several ideas for works aEUR|paintings, drawings, or sculptures. Sometimes ideas come to me when I least expect it, or when my mind is on other things. Ideas can be related to my current experiences, or to my feelings about things that are happening to me in my life at that particular time. Alternatively they can be related to a current interest, or something that occupies my attention at that moment, and my ideas and feelings about which Id like to share with others. A lot of my work is autobiographicalaEUR|either directly or indirectly, consciously or subconsciously. It is frequently very personal, and expresses events or circumstances or experiences in my life. I usually work in either Acrylic on Canvas, Crayon or Pastel, or both together, with Gouache, on card, Drawing in pencil, or Ink, or both, or with creating SculptureaEUR|for which I use fired artists clay. Sculpture follows a completely different set of rules and values from two-dimensional art, obviously, I think of it as Drawing in three dimensions and I take this into account when creating mine. In...

Paul Pinzarrone - This work is a study of how nature and power rhyme. It is an exploration of candy-colored sensual puzzles printed on high gloss aluminum or on metallic paper and plexiglas. Viewers are drawn in closer to feel comforted yet disturbed, to wonder if it is science fiction or science illustration, mythology or my updated version of art history. This work is my exploration of the dream world around me. This work is digital. I use fractal software, flame painter and amber light software, painting software and digital photography. The patterns are built up using transparent fractal layers, sometimes wrapped around figures and sometimes they become the environment. Their skin is my canvas and the viewer determines if they are photographs of tattoos, painted figures or something else other-worldly. Before I call it art, it must be new....

Michael Schaffer - Exploring the realms of color, texture, drama, and feelings are the main ingredients of my art work. To inspire the viewer to deal with the issues presented to him is my goal. To inspire the viewer to interpret and react is my passion. I hope you have been inspired... or at least have an opinion. Art and life have many of the same ingredients for us to enjoy....

Ariadna De Raadt - ItaEURtms always difficult to write about myself. I believe that I do not need many words to describe what I do. On my main page you can see hyperlinks that lead to my photos, paintings, vector illustrations, and a few articles. You can think that it is too many directions for one artist, but in reality everything what I do has a connection to architecture and design of interiors. IaEURtmd like to tell you that St. Petersburg (Leningrad) is my place of birth and it is always in my heart. Now, I live and feel like at home in The Hague (the Netherlands) and it is the most wonderful city in the world. As an artist I specialize in decorative painting. It's a new direction in my creativity, and it gives me a great inspiration since I can utilize new art materials and modern techniques. My last passion is photography. My photos are publishing in different American and European magazines....

    C. A. Hoffman - For me, my artwork is very personal. It reflects a lot about how I am feeling at any given time and place. I feel that art has to be on this personal level to completely capture how the artist is feeling daily, or trying to convey a certain thought or emotion at that particular moment. We all, at one time or another try to express our thoughts or ideas, whether it is to others or just to ourselves, by words, actions, ideas or pictures. If we are sucessful in this attempt, I think it shows through in our everyday work or art. I believe that one is either born to create art naturally or by learning. For me, I feel that I was born with this wonderful gift, and I try to improve upon it every day. In my photos and art, I hope to show how everyday objects and nature can capture our imaginations and feelings. Sometimes I work with an image to improve it, inhance it, or just to fuel the imagination. I truly hope this shows in all of my art. ...

Vladimir Volosov - I was born in 1937 in Leningrad, USSR (now St. Petersburg, Russia). My way to art was a lengthy one. Before becoming an artist, I studied for thirty years at the forefront of modern physics as a PhD scientist and professor, author more than 150 scientific articles in contemporary laser physics. Thirty years of strenuous scientific work on the front edge of modern physics gives me a deep feeling for the anxiety and unprotectedness of the world's beauty. The formula, "beauty saves the world" fits my own attitude. My creed is also embodied in the statement: "to have time to realize everything given to you by Nature." At the threshold of my fifties, I decided to live one more life, a new, alluring life of the free artist. I walked away from my established scientific career and completely devoted myself to painting. In 1991 I founded and headed the association "Light, Color and Art" to connect with scientists engaged in the arts. The main directions of my paintings are lyrical realism and abstract compositions. My paintings are about light, color, atmosphere and space. For me, the most important elements are light and color and their juxtaposition/nexus/meeting of...

Daniel Clarke - Daniel E. Clarke is a Los Angeles Native who has been painting his entire career in the Los Angeles area. His art education has included studying under the internationally famous Timothy Clark, UCLA Extension University, and Glendale College. He has explored both pictorial and abstract designs but is dedicated to a free flow of color and dynamic composition. Mr. Clarke has concentrated on the acrylic and watercolor medium, and paints on location in his Los Angeles based studio. He also maintains his paintings and sales in his own company called Berrypunch Gallery. ...

Donald Sallot - My art I always think of taking a journey and it would be to go places that I havenaEURtmt been, much like a lifeaEURtms journal, to see and experience and feel new things. My SALLO paintings try to show different styles, techniques, combination of colors and textures, much like lifeaEURtms journey, the scenery changes. Having the opportunity to travel for long periods all over the world has allowed me to see various cultures and environments aEUR" mountains, deserts, pastures, oceans, rivers. With all of the colors and formations in the world, I want to be able to apply on canvas some of what I have seen, letting both contrasting and complementary colors flow. Some of my experiences include the desert heat and sand storms of Saudi Arabia, the icy cold and wet of Minnesota, the heat and humidity of Florida, the chilly and wet climate in Yellowstone, the humidity and rains of South America, the overcast and wetness of Europe. I decided to release some of my painting from the past in conjunction with my new work. The paintings that date 2001+ are paintings that I created before traveling for over 20 years throughout the US, Europe, South ...

Shanly Momeni - aEURoeGame-maker DeviceaEUR series focuses in the unconscious human mechanism that will demonstrate itself in a crowded atmosphere. The combination and matching of strong and bright colors in an atmosphere in which Dark color becomes dominant together with shapes and masks that are hanging and rotating in a way. To exemplify or clarify a dizziness among happiness and sadness. An inner childish world with a tendency towards lighting and childhood joy with an outer and peripheral atmosphere which is dark-sometimes being lit by a spark of light. An upbeat world but concerned among many adulthood concerns...

Chris Gould - Never the studious young boy, I spent most of my class time drawing sketches in the pages of my notebooks. Santa Anna, raising his sword in the battle for the Alamo buried deep within my notebook jumped out and attacked my father one evening while he help me with my homework. He counter attacked by hurling, "you will never be anything doing stuff like this", and I believed him. In school I loved art class, excelled and looked forward to it but never believed that I could be something there. When I went to college I focused on art and graduated near the top of my class with a BFA, and still believed that I would never be anything. After all, all I needed was a degree. With diploma in hand I entered the professional world with the ambition to climb the corporate ladder. Climb and climb to be something. Reaching to be something, I fall on art as therapy for the stress and anxiety that being something brings. Now I am something and nothing at the same time because I don't believe any more. And now I want to be something else. It is here in this ambition ...

Sheri Smith - For the past fifteen years, I have worked on my Capturing Culture series, a body of works on paper, drawn from the audience of live music performances. Sketched in Caran dAche crayon on suede board or with a sharp implement into scratch-board. The pieces portray the performers and often their instruments and parts of the venue. Though ultimately a visual record, the work emerges from a ritualistic creative process which serves to address my feelings about time, creative skill, and visual imagery. The fleeting nature of these performances is central to the work. It is often hard not to see the passing of time as an enemy, but in the case of my work the opposite is true. The impending end of a song, set, or evening offers a sense of freedom, allowing me to work quickly. This rapid pace also dictates my choice of materials. Caran dAche crayons or scratch-boards function best when used quickly and confidently. A darkened venue limits my color palette on the suede board to just what I can see. Additionally, a confined seating space constrains the size of my boards and therefore the number of details I can include. Performances and process ...
