  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Daniel Clarke - Daniel E. Clarke is a Los Angeles Native who has been painting his entire career in the Los Angeles area. His art education has included studying under the internationally famous Timothy Clark, UCLA Extension University, and Glendale College. He has explored both pictorial and abstract designs but is dedicated to a free flow of color and dynamic composition. Mr. Clarke has concentrated on the acrylic and watercolor medium, and paints on location in his Los Angeles based studio. He also maintains his paintings and sales in his own company called Berrypunch Gallery. ...

Klaus Lange - I photograph "sea-worn stories" in the weathered and worn paint on the sides of ships at sea. With my camera I capture distressed painted steel, thus presenting an intimate look at what most people not only never see, but generally are not even aware of. With that I reveal some intensely dramatic abstract imagery and the grand power of an ever moving force - the sea....

Rita Levinsohn - Welcome to my world of Other Realities. I am a painter of mystical figurative paintings and abstractions composed of acrylic paint and found objects. My concern is for the future of our planet. The animate and inanimate objects within the paintings reflect many incarnations. The message being that it is possible to create rather than destroy....

Austen Pinkerton - Austen Pinkerton If I turn my mind to it very quickly I can come up with several ideas for works aEUR|paintings, drawings, or sculptures. Sometimes ideas come to me when I least expect it, or when my mind is on other things. Ideas can be related to my current experiences, or to my feelings about things that are happening to me in my life at that particular time. Alternatively they can be related to a current interest, or something that occupies my attention at that moment, and my ideas and feelings about which Id like to share with others. A lot of my work is autobiographicalaEUR|either directly or indirectly, consciously or subconsciously. It is frequently very personal, and expresses events or circumstances or experiences in my life. I usually work in either Acrylic on Canvas, Crayon or Pastel, or both together, with Gouache, on card, Drawing in pencil, or Ink, or both, or with creating SculptureaEUR|for which I use fired artists clay. Sculpture follows a completely different set of rules and values from two-dimensional art, obviously, I think of it as Drawing in three dimensions and I take this into account when creating mine. In all my...

Austen Pinkerton - Jacqueline Weegels - My whole life I have created art somehow, as do most people one way or another. I grew up with a father who enjoyed painting large theater back drops and making larger than life papermache float creations. Although, I felt inspired by this, it somehow intimidated me and made me want to work small. Now, having raised two children, and influenced and been influenced by them and THEIR art, my work has become ever more eclectic and varied. I am ready for a new phase in my art as, like everyone else, continue to conquer new challenges in life, stay healthy and seek balance. ...

Tary Socha - I am an innovative contemporary artist, exploring unconventional images and techniques in mixed media, collage, acrylic painting, pastel and textile and surface design. I am committed to experimentation and a unique and dynamic expression of my own view of the natural environment, with unexpected color, texture and energy. Through my work, I intend to uplift and brighten the spirit of the viewer, and cause them to question their own perspective of nature and life. My paintings exhibit a fascination with the physical properties of life and science involved in transforming our environment, such as the power of electrical storms, oceans, volcanoes, oxidation, and the process of renewal and rebirth that arises from deterioration and regeneration. Reverence for life, its phenomena and the interconnectedness of all things are the foundation of my work. Primarily, my images are abstractions and impressions of earth, sky, sea and other mysterious phenomena. However, I also continue to work in pastels, drawing, printmaking, and textile design, and I explore all types of imagery, to expand my creative insight and skills. ...

Tom Lund-Lack - I am an experienced artist whose work uses the power of imagination to find find the essence of the subject.A It is grounded in the need to celebrate life, and to portray the subject through the transforming power of colour and light. Arrangements of shape, line, pattern and colour are brilliant at conjuringA up powerful expressions, sometimes these can be dreamlike and at peace sometimes exciting and dramatic. My work does not always represent an actual moment, place or object in time, but they areA the result of a process of reflection, recollection and reinvention, a distillation of experience. Art is a very small word having the widest possible meaning appreciation is a subjective judgement and no artist or workA can please everyone.A My aim is to please at least some of you and I am very confident that this aspiration is achievable ...

Janet Munro - American Artist JL. Munro, is a contemporary self - taught painter who in more than 40 years of work, has achieved a great amount of recognition. Paintings by Munro are listed in many important public and private collections, including the Smithsonian Institution, Museum of American Folk Art, The John and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, and the Nantucket Whaling Museum, is to list only a few. JL. Munro was born in Massachusetts, and her earliest American roots trace back to the first settlers of Cape Cod, Nantucket, and New Amsterdam (New York) in the 1600's, including direct family lines to the Swain, Dolor Davis, Gardner, Hyde, Eaton, Holmes, and Cook family trees. Munro describes her canvases as "pictorial - history" or that they are paintings with a message - actually read by the viewer, like a page in a book, with a noted focus on the waterfront lives of her own ancestors. Munro's favorite subjects include her native Massachusetts and New York. Whether it is a bustling town center, a quiet bayside, or illustrating living by the sea, Munro is always striving for realism, and carefully finishes each canvas to tell a story of American History. JL. Munro - born [Janet Andrea Lehne] ...

Renee Rutana - As a child, I was fascinated by the vibrant colors of sunsets, the seasons, flowers and certain landscapes. But all of my life I have suffered from severe asthma. While the other children were outside enjoying the snow or jumping in the fallen leaves, blooming flowers of spring, etc. I was inside, looking out the window wishing I could be a part of it. I would never have acquired my artistic skills if it hadn't been for my asthma. I learned to draw and paint, due to many times staying home in bed or at the hospitals (for a couple weeks at a time)with not much to do. It was my escape, a cherished place I could create and imagine I was there instead. While these days my asthma is better, thanks to new medications, I still feel the joy in my heart of creating a special window to the world, my world, for those also interested to see too. My goal as an artist was to paint these subjects capturing the very things that change quickly due to the season or weather or aging. I wanted to shed light on every day things that many people take ...

Renee Rutana - Claire Petit - In my work, beings of dream and intimacy migrate slowly to the merry-go-round of birth, death, and rebrith. Different periods and series rub shoulders in my decades of paintings. Duality breathes deeply, and from one life to the next, powerful feminine energy dominates moving, introspective, multiple, often wrapped in a gentle violence. Since 1989, I have been traveling and working between France and the United States. I had my first solo show in 1999 at the 24 Gallery in New York City. In 2004 my work was represented and exhibited at the Grant Gallery. In 2005 I left for Mexico, where I maintained a studio for three months in Oaxaca. From 2005 to 2010, my work was represented and exhibited by the Opera Gallery in New York City. During those years I regularly painted in New York. Since 2010 my work has been exhibited in Paris, Brussels, Luxembourg Metz. My studio is in Nancy, where I live.
