  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Miroslav Boskov - Post modern motifs concepts of my Paintings sublimate and reflects a long period of introspection as well as observation of sociological and cultural phenomenon and patterns, characteristic for the Local and Global environment, and all that has been constantly provoked, contrasted and crossbred with layers of previous experiences, various cultural phenomenon and patterns. My paintings possess almost Surrealistic contrasts between Ancient artifacts quotes and elements of the Modern World, thus creating vibrant, yet introverted and contemplative atmosphere. The paintings main motif characteristic is manipulation with ancient Greek artifacts mainly sculptures, statues or their fragments combined and opposed to the almost abstract, dreamlike, multi plan backgrounds, composed of various surfaces and details consisted of concrete and abstract geometrical forms, depicting partially ambient of modern down town buildings and dehumanized office spaces, modern war game toys and other technological symbols of New 21st Century Era. All that is imbued with full spectra of vivid, yet regarding tonality, somber color values, as discrete announcement and distant reflection of the Past and the Present. Miroslav Boskov ...

Jay Tee - Textures and patterns in nature often have no apparent scale. Images from outer space can resemble something under a microscope. My abstracts combine multiple photographs of diverse surfaces. Totally new images are created out of disparate elements, often losing any recognition of their origins. I then subtly overlay a title that the resulting image has suggested to me, words and typography contributing to the whole impression. I make the original limited-edition prints on an eight-colour pigmented ink printer....

Raymond Paul Moats - "I seek to express not what is said, but what is thought and done, by means of poetic visualizations of time, experience and adventure". Raymond Paul Moats * * * My artistic inspiration is in DaVinci's engineering ability and insight. The majestic, studied excellence of Ferris, Winslow Homer, N.C. Wyeth and Remington are great examples to note. Art, design and structural engineering are my core interests from my youngest of days. It is what I always have done. I also admire the late author, Ayn Rand, for her literary prowess and powerful insights about creativity. One of her best comments is, we do what we create by a "right, morale premise." I paint Aviation, the history, technology, man and machine. My art can be called a realist impressionistic style that draws on technical imagination, color perception, the energy and dynamics of flight. Yet my work is not limited to aviation subjects alone. I also illustrate critters, landscapes, scenes of needed things, maritime art and I am a photographer. Wood work, furniture design and re-purposing found wood objects is one of my first loves. I relish the challenge illustrating the abstract concept to create visual realities with my favorite art medium...

Terry Matarelli - My life is all about process. It's the getting there that interests me. My art is similar in that I like the process of making something from nothing. I've spent years landscaping and building a cabin in the woods, as well as doing artwork, and I love taking a bare piece of nothingness and making it something, walk away and don't look back. I strive for a nice finished product, but it's the getting there that keeps me going. I'm not interested in pretty. Be real. Painting is paint on a surface. Any materials, for that matter, have their own essential being, and bring that spirit to the work. I look for that material to speak to me, say something to the viewer, and say whatever it wants. My work is mostly figure ground relationships. I've been drawn to the figure all my life. I'm interested in the drama of life and living, and the endless possibilities of the interaction or isolation we encounter. I'm not looking to represent surface reality, but rather emotional or spiritual reality. I want to get under the skin and see what's going on. I like...

Leslie Marcus - Born and raised in New York, Leslie Marcus maintains her cutting edge: continually taking her artwork to greater heights with passion and sensitivity. After receiving a B.F.A from The Academy of Art College in S.F. CA., Marcus immersed herself in the Fashion World of Los Angeles, creating exclusive, original & exotic Textile Designs for Apparel & Home Furnishings. Leslie's Textile Designs now can be found in her Contemporary Fine Art Paintings of sensuous and exotic female figures. The women Marcus paints are draped in finely embellished decorative clothing, posed in lavishly ornate settings. Marcus, is also an Art Educator, and has taught High School and Elementary School Visual Arts. She continues to offer Private & Group Classes in Watercolor and Oil Painting. Leslie has achieved numerous awards & recognition. Her art has been reproduced for wine labels, limited edition giclees, and fine art greeting cards. In January 2012, Leslie's artwork was installed as part of the permanent collection in the New Healing Arts Program at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in California. In addition, Leslie's work will be featured in a Solo Exhibition at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital's New Birthing Center and Maternity Wing through January 2013. Marcus' ...

Carole Wilson - The inspiration for my images comes from meditation, dreams, and hypnogogic imagery; creating a healing, helpful presence wherever the art is placed is my goal. To that end, my intention is to create art that is visually stimulating, both overtly and on a subtle energetic level. As colors and shapes affect mood in powerful ways, I seek to evoke a joyful, uplifting response in the viewer. There is an underlying pure and positive force that can be expressed through the visual medium of painting, that is at once mysterious and yet accessible to human consciousness. Channeling this energy through paint and canvas is the purpose behind my work....

Paul Gazda - These works are from my "Household Icons" series. In this series, I transform discarded household objects into art by mounting them on wire mesh and painting them with a variety of acrylic mediums. These works are fun, but at the same time draw attention to the things we take for granted in our daily lives. I also have a "Concept" and "Didactic" series. Please visit my web site to see the full spectrum of my work. ...

Jake Baddeley - All is proportion I am sitting, a cup of tea, some good music, a brush in hand and i am gone. There is nothing better: I forget where I am, who I am, and all sense of time. As Picasso once said: "I leave my body outside the studio." Or something like that... I am working on a picture of a lady on a mechanical horse. Why? What is the significance of that? I have no idea. If it "works" pictorially, then do it. Paint first, ask questions later. Too many questions and the muse runs screaming. She is very shy. You have too pretend that she is not there when she comes, but you know she is there because you have no idea what time it is, and you have forgotten your self again. It occurs to me as I proceed, that the lines stop being objects and start to become something else. Pure proportion. Just a harmony of lengths, sizes, and shapes; a prototype Mondrian. Harmony, music, interval, number; all these things are related. It is the link between art, music, and science. A good painting vibrates, because of the resonance of its parts. Vibrates visually, and psychologically...

Ian Sheldon - Light and sense of place are key elements that inspire Ian Sheldon to paint. His subject is consequently varied, from the open spaces of his native prairie land, to the abandoned buildings of pioneer homesteads in the North American west, or the dramatic architecture of the cities where he has lived. Ian was born in Edmonton in 1971, and was brought up in South Africa, Singapore and England. While studying for his first degree (BA Hons) at Cambridge University, England, Ian began to paint the historical architecture of the city. Since 1994 galleries have exhibited this work, and in 1998, Cambridge Contemporary Art, the city's leading commercial gallery, accepted his watercolours. The City of Oxford, sharing a similar architectural heritage, has become a recent focus, and his work has been shown by Objet d'Art in Woodstock, England since 1996. Ian makes frequent trips to Britain to pursue his architectural passion. Ian is a self-taught artist, who believes that his true understanding of artistic self-expression will come best through his experimentation with various media over time. He believes that as he ages, the wisdom that he gains with experience will be powerfully reflected in his paintings. Ian ...

Keith Wilson - Keith Wilson's Architectural paintings are icons dedicated to an architecture that is no longer conceived or constructed. They represent his continuous study of architectural form. In his work he uses building structures and details in playful juxtaposition, allowing classical elements and vernacular constructions to have their own way, proliferating variations. His color is similarly the product of memory and imagination, inspired by the painted buildings he has seen in Italy and Greece. The result of this graphic exploration is a body of several hundred paintings and drawings, in which knowledge of historic form, fantasies of buildings that might be, and studies for commissioned works are all intermixed. Recently he has been painting landscapes of inspired by the hills that are adjacent to the UC Berkeley campus. The original paintings are painted with Chinese brushes using sumi ink and watercolor mixed with black water. The artist is offering signed limited edition prints of the paintings from his private collection. The printing method employed has a very high resolution which reproduces the brilliance and transparent qualities of the original watercolor paintings using permanent, archival ink on 100% rag watercolor paper. Keith Wilson was born in 1954 in Redding, California and has ...

Jacqueline Weegels - My whole life I have created art somehow, as do most people one way or another. I grew up with a father who enjoyed painting large theater back drops and making larger than life papermache float creations. Although, I felt inspired by this, it somehow intimidated me and made me want to work small. Now, having raised two children, and influenced and been influenced by them and THEIR art, my work has become ever more eclectic and varied. I am ready for a new phase in my art as, like everyone else, continue to conquer new challenges in life, stay healthy and seek balance. ...
