Artists Describing Their Art:

Luis Guillermo Ramírez Ezquerra - Luis RE. Artist statment. Versus: sobre Borderline borderline [boer-der-lain] s. Limite, orilla, frontera.- a. Incierto, dudoso.

Jay Braden - Art is a thread connecting the many passions I value in life. Painting and illustration are two of my favorite modes for pulling together the vast array of subjects that fascinate me, people I've met, and places and events I've experienced, into an evolving series of statements and reflections of the world. The creation of art is one form of visual story-telling. What each viewer brings to their experience of an image is as important as the image they're observing. When this is realized, both the viewer and the image are liberated, and the image truly speaks to the individual in a unique way. ...

Shin-Hye Park - Park, Shin-Hye Born in Daegu, Korea Master of Fine Arts, Graduate School of Hong-lk Univ., Seoul, Korea Freie Kunst, Gesamthochschule Kassel, Univ., des Landes Hessen, Germany Present Lecturer at Hankyong National Univ., Korea An Attempt to Perceive:Nature, Life and Humanity An Artistic expression is for me an act of confirming what I have perceived, namely what I have to know while seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, feeling endlessly in the midst of daily life. What is especially important in my work is how I have progressed to know nature. Nature is a starting point of understanding about life, humanity, and somthing called living as one experiances. It is also a place for an empirical, not ideological, understanding of God. Equilibrium is a divine state. Thus, God must have created the universe in his attributes. Now we conceive equilibrium as broken and are feeling a pain from the wound. Then an artistic act is, at least for me, a reflection upon such a reality and embodies a meaning for healing. prolog I feel a deep compassion for Ahnsan, which is suffering from a serious pathological symptom called !(r)development,!- and in turn often affirm in my mind that I will ...

Ellen Safra - Safra suffuses her work with a loving and caressing texture-pigment swept across formica or canvas giving a silken sheen to the surfaces. Her large images were brought about by early influnces surfacing from her subconcious and instrumental to a great creative output. Her art reflects her response to others and her feelings for humanity. ...

E.c. Corbitt - E.C. Corbitt - The Comedian of Horror If one accepts the current Postmodernist perspective on the development of "modernism" in painting, several faulty assumptions about its history become evident. The popular view that painting passed through a series representational phases - Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Fauvism, Cubism, etc., only to triumph in the achievements of pure abstraction, now appears historically naive and dominated by a Western European bias. Very few artists, whether in their vision or their work, have so successfully challenged the simplicity of this view as E.C. Corbitt. A few international painters - Francis Bacon, Paul Cadmus, Lucien Freud - while deeply influenced by trends in twentieth-century art, have also remained committed to representation of the human figure. Corbitt, who spent the last twenty-five years working in Europe, also retains the centrality of the figure, while incorporating aspects of the American art scene - the various forms of Pop, Op, and Conceptual Art - that consolidate his American experience and give his work a unique vision. His technical ability, use of colour, and refreshing sense of wit - combined with a healthy dose of sarcasm (derived, it appears, from an early exposure to Mad Magazine) - involve the viewer in a stimulating journey. ...

Stephanie Hayden - My work varies in style, i try to capture moments of my life on different canvases, from watercolours, acrylics, to montages, sculpture and my photography. Much of my work is dark & disturbing and i can attribute it to the fact that until recently i was registered blind, legally, having been born with dislocated lenses. The more vibrant & colourful works are from my later period after i had surgery to implant interocular lenses, thus i now see the world in a totally different way. This can be seen across my portfolio....

Barbara A. Sloan - It does not matter to me what other artists are selling. I create images that come from my heart and soul. I apply the same philosophy to my writings and music. I must be true to myself. Otherwise, for me, it is simply not worth doing. ...

Stephen Fusco - Welcome, I am a full-time police artist, or forensic artist, for the Orange County Sheriff's Office in Orlando, Florida. I've actually been a police officer since March of 1980. My background as an investigator has been an important part of my success as a police artist but, my passion for art is the key ingrediant. I feel blessed that my artistic skills make a difference in peoples lives, as well as the contribution to sucessful prosecutions in major case investigations throughout Central Florida. I used to do most my police art in pencil, however now I use a Wacom pad and the computer to "airbrush" my work such as suspect composite drawings, age progression drawings, skull reconstructions, and post mortem drawings. There are numerous examples on this site that illustrate what computer art looks like. It is still done by hand except it's within the computer. I also do commercial art for the Sheriff, which I get to use my own creative freedom. I call it "artistic support." Artistic support comes in the form of illustrations, unit logos, t-shirt designs, memorial portraits, and police related paintings and renderings. When I do artistic support, I like ...

Tamara Sorkin - I have always worked from organic subjects- plants, animals, or the human body, but usually I arrive at an abstract, "zoomorphic" description, that enables me a wider perspective. ...
