Artists Describing Their Art:

Stephanie Hayden - My work varies in style, i try to capture moments of my life on different canvases, from watercolours, acrylics, to montages, sculpture and my photography. Much of my work is dark & disturbing and i can attribute it to the fact that until recently i was registered blind, legally, having been born with dislocated lenses. The more vibrant & colourful works are from my later period after i had surgery to implant interocular lenses, thus i now see the world in a totally different way. This can be seen across my portfolio....

E.c. Corbitt - E.C. Corbitt - The Comedian of Horror If one accepts the current Postmodernist perspective on the development of "modernism" in painting, several faulty assumptions about its history become evident. The popular view that painting passed through a series representational phases - Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Fauvism, Cubism, etc., only to triumph in the achievements of pure abstraction, now appears historically naive and dominated by a Western European bias. Very few artists, whether in their vision or their work, have so successfully challenged the simplicity of this view as E.C. Corbitt. A few international painters - Francis Bacon, Paul Cadmus, Lucien Freud - while deeply influenced by trends in twentieth-century art, have also remained committed to representation of the human figure. Corbitt, who spent the last twenty-five years working in Europe, also retains the centrality of the figure, while incorporating aspects of the American art scene - the various forms of Pop, Op, and Conceptual Art - that consolidate his American experience and give his work a unique vision. His technical ability, use of colour, and refreshing sense of wit - combined with a healthy dose of sarcasm (derived, it appears, from an early exposure to Mad Magazine) - involve the viewer in a stimulating journey. ...

Tamara Sorkin - I have always worked from organic subjects- plants, animals, or the human body, but usually I arrive at an abstract, "zoomorphic" description, that enables me a wider perspective. ...

Jocelynn Grabowski - From childhood, we are molded to be who we are today. Because of this, I look at things differently than you do. I may notice the wood on the living room couch while you observe the color patterns on it first. When creating sculptural installations, I combine wood, metal, paint, and lights to make the viewer think and see in different ways. The work titled Black Light Dream, challenges our perspective. When the viewer stands in one location, what they observe will be different from another part of the room. Working on a large-scale with different materials and enclosed in a darkend space, I create this optical illusion. I intend for the viewer to find different focal points, highlighting the patterns and sense of movement throughout the work....

Donald Mccray - I tend to focus on everyday observations of the world, real and imaginary. I want to make what I hope is a strong visual statement that will stand the test of time. I have a fondness for working in black and white as a tribute to the early masters. As I have said previously, print making is my favorite form of art; mainly because, you have to be a proficient draftsman, understanding line quality, texture, form, pressure, shade, tonality, perspective, design, surface tension and irregularities. My old professor (Lee Baxter Davis) at East Texas State University never let me forget figure ground relationships, and his theories for sequential values. The other side of my artistic palette is very comfortable when working with color, relationship, and harmony. My main desire when working with traditional , or digital photography with no digital enhancements is to capture a moment in time , and space. I am inspired by atmospheric depth, movement, design, lines, and shapes. I also enjoy the more experimental side of creating photography with a simple pin hole camera; also known as, a camera obscures. The creative thrust that I am trying to express is of paramount importance, and always at the center ...

Alexander Hinovsi - My art is inspired by different aspects of our lives. It is connected with the nature, living beings, psychology, spirituality, cosmology and certain philosophical views. I am interested in different areas of art, that is why as an artist I try to use different techniques related to it. I am strongly influenced by surrealism, symbolism, post-impressionism, secession. I am also interested in installation art and I already have works on this subject. I mainly work in the field of painting, but sometimes I do graphic and decorative art. For me the art is a ray of light. The light, which we the artists express to share it with the other people. The light, that we realize to express our ideas. What would a persons life look like without art The art makes us feel happy, sad, empathetic. It exalted and recharges us. The art is light, a reflector for man, helping him to move beyond his everyday life, to break this reality into something different, interesting and inspiring. ...
