Artwork Description:
This etching was made by using six individual metal plates that I stacked in a vertical row on the Charles Brand Floor Printing Press Bed, which was manufactured in New York City. I took my inspiration from a photograph in the Farber Gravestone Collection, at Cornell University. My etching depicts a tombstone from Salem, Massachusetts that was carved around 1698. It is part of my PLACES FOR THE DEAD series. I employed the etching techniques of intaglio, drypoint, and aquatint in conjunction with the Chine colle Chinese pasting process of merging colored mulberry bark paper from Thailand onto the print during the printing process. My media also included intense black oil based ink, Charbonnel Brand, and RivesBFK white paper, both manufactured in France. This VERTICAL image is etched on six individual zinc plates that each measure 3 inches wide by 2 inches high. A tiny space separated each plate on the press bed. The print size is about 22 inches long x 10 inches wide, or 65 cm by 20 cm. For personal and spiritual reason, the last two editions of this series shall remain not printed and unpublished until Samhain, October 31, 2018. This multiple zinc plate etching was hand printed and published by the artist at The Center for Works on Paper in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Please note that this etching is shipped to the collector without a frame or mat. This keeps the price low and allows the collector personal choice in mat selection and framing. A sturdy cardboard box is employed for shipping the work. The etching is first wrapped in two layers of acid free glassine and then placed between two archival boards. This is next placed into the shipping carton and securely packed with bubble wrap. The Absolute Arts Dot Com price includes all handling costs, shipment supplies, and the cost of the shipment box. Mailing costs are added.
