Artwork Description:
This etching, entitled Chateau de Lioncourt in France, is based on an architectural work from the south of France in the Upper Auvergne region. However, the title refers to a fictitious castle in Anne Rice’s, Interview with a Vampire, series. This building was photographed by the artist in 1987, and is actually the Château d’Anjony, located in the Doire Valley. The Fifteenth Century castle, which has quite a bloody history, was built by Louis II d’Anjony. To this date, the building still houses a Black Virgin and Child sculpture entitled, Our Lady of Anjony, which is purported to have mystical powers related to the Knight’s Templar. Upon first seeing the building with its four towers, the artist sensed this was the birth location of Lestat, the main character from Rice’s works. The zinc etching plate used measured eight inches high by six inches wide, which is also the image size of 10.160cm by 12.700cm. This hand pulled etching is executed in a blend of French, oil base inks on RivesBFK white paper, also from France. It was printed and published at The Center for Works on Paper in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This print is from the FINAL OR 4TH EDITION, which as all editions in this series, is limited to only FIVE works. THE PRICE INCLUDES A FRAME AND MAT.
