Artwork Description:   Full title is LELAND IN ORANGE. Print measures 9inches by 11inches, or 22.86cm by 27.94cm. Done on STONEHENGE black paper with oil-based etching inks. Several acid baths were necessary to achieve this overall misty effect, as well as gold pigment. This intimate work is based on an early photographic portrait of Charles Godfrey Leland, a native Philadelphian author, folklorist, and occult historian, born on August 15, 1824. Leland was born in a house located on the North side of Chestnut Street situated just two doors below Fourth Street he traveled extensively and died in Florence, Italy on March 20, 1903. This writer is renowned for saving the Gypsy language, known as Romany, from extinction via his recording vast amounts of information from the various Gypsy cultures in Italy, Spain, France, Ireland, England, the USA, and the Middle East. Many believe him to be the worlds first hands on anthropologist. Leland wrote such works as, Aradia, Gospel of the Witches 1899 Hans Breitman Ballads 1860 and, Etruscan Roman Remains 1892. He is buried in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Please note that this etching is shipped and sold to the buyer without a frame or mat. This keeps the price low and also allows the collector a choice in framing. The etching is shipped in a sturdy cardboard box. The print is wrapped in two layers of acid free glassine and then placed between two archival boards. This is next placed into the shipping box and securely packed with bubble wrap. The price from Absolute Arts Dot Com does NOT shipment costs to the collector. However, packing supplies and handling costs are included in the price.
