Artwork Description:
TITLE, Promenade of the Monks at Mont Saint Michel in France. This etching is from my series entitled, MYSTERIOUS PLACES AND SACRED SPACES. The scene is adapted from an 1890 photograph in The Library of Congress, Washington, DC in the collection Photochrom Prints, Prints and Photographs. I created two drawings in graphite pencil, 7B, to prepare for my original double plate etching. My hand printed work demonstrates the tension I create between geometric form, color, and line. The two etched zinc plates were placed on the press bed of a Charles Brand floor size printers press to create one image on Rives BFK white paper. I used oil base ink from Paris, Charbonnel brand, and the studio techniques of intaglio, aquatint and Chine colle. The overall image measures 8 inches high by 12.5 inches wide. The print size is 15 inches high, 38.1 cm, by 18 inches, 45.7cm, wide. The work was hand printed and published by the artist at The Center for Works on Paper in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Please note that this etching is shipped to the collector without a frame or mat. This keeps the price low and affords a wide selection of choice for the collector with regard to matting and framing. A sturdy cardboard box is employed for shipping the work. The etching is first wrapped in two layers of acid free glassine and then placed between two archival boards. This is next placed into the shipping carton and securely packed with bubble wrap. The Absolute Arts price includes all handling costs, shipment supplies, Certificate of Authenticity, and the shipment carton. Mailing and transportation costs are added to the price.
