Etching Techniques Used included Intaglio, Aquatint, and Drypoint. Nine separated zinc plates, each measuring 2 inches wide by 3 inches high or 2.54cm by 12.7cm, were employed to create this image. The plates were lined on the press in three rows of three to produce this multiple rectangular work. I did this to counterbalance the square areas within the image itself, as well as to elongate the veiled figure, which is the Guardian of the tomb of LAGARDE-GUERET. Another reason for this geometric visual puzzle relates to the literary collection of Jeanne Lagarde Gueret, which was donated to the National Archives in Paris in 1936. Most of the books bear the following bookplate, Odiate e aspettate bookplate Jeanne Lagarde Gueret, which refers to the motto of Catherine de Medici. from Bibliothque nationale de France. Note The Lagarge-Gueret tomb was designed by artist Eugene Paul Benet, 1863-1942. The overall size of the image is 6.5 inches wide by 9.5 inches high. The print measures 11 inches wide by 15 inches high, or 28x38cm. I used Charbonnel brand oil-based ink from France on Stonehenge gray paper. I photographed this image in 1987 while in Paris visiting the Pere-Lachaise cemetery. This 109-acre graveyard is a must-see site for any visitor to The City of Lights. It contains the most stunning tomb sculpture, as well as the graves of Edith Piaf, Bizet, Jim Morrison, Oscar Wilde, and Alice Toklas. This price dies not include a frame, mat, or shipment costs.
