Artwork Description:

This artwork incorporates the two techniques of intaglio and drypoint. I used French oil-based etching inks, Charbonnel brand from Paris, on Stonehenge cream colored printmaking paper. What makes this etching unique are my techniques of ink application and the use of three separate zinc plates lined vertically onto the printing press to create the work in a triptych format. As in all of my etchings, several workings of each plate took place in conjunction with the use of numerous dips in the acid bath. My inspiration for this etching was found in a published mystical work by the German scholar and Jesuit priest, Athanasius Kircher, S. J., 1602-1680, entitled, OEDIPUS AEGYPTIACUS from The Cornell University Library, Division of Rare and Manuscript Collections. His work features the Goddess Artemis, or the Egyptian Goddess Isis, with the Triple Crown of Creation. The paper used was Stonehenge Cream colored. The print size measures 8 inches wide by 14 inches high. The work was hand printed and published by the artist at The Center for Works on Paper in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Please note that this etching is shipped to the collector without a frame or mat. This keeps the price low and allows the collector personal choice in mat selection and framing. A sturdy cardboard box is employed for shipping the work. The etching is first wrapped in two layers of acid free glassine and then placed between two archival boards. This is next placed into the shipping carton and securely packed with bubble wrap. The Absolute Arts Dot Com price includes all handling costs, shipment supplies, and the coast of the shipment box. Mailing costs are added.
