Artwork Description:
the full title is, ALTAR OF THE OWL. BOHEMIAN FIRE AND AIR, HIDDEN WATER, HIDDEN EARTH This etching, from my MYSTERIOUS PLACES and SACRED SPACES series, was inspired by an on line historic photo from the clandestine and very exclusive Bohemian Club, located just north of San Francisco and founded in the late 1800s. It is one of my dreams to have an Artists Residency here, because of the natural beauty and inherent magic of the area, not to mention the historical and creative vibrations within these woods. In addition, since the original members were all artists, writers, poets, and theatrical people, this landmark place holds a special fascination for me. The printmaking techniques employed in this work include intaglio, aquatint, mezzotint, and drypoint. This print is from the FIRST EDITION of three, which is limited to only ten prints. This was printed by hand on RivesBFK white paper with oil based etching ink from Paris, Charbonnel brand. The size of the zinc plate, which required several Nitric acid baths, was 6 inches high, 15.24cm, by 9 inches wide ,22.9cm. The print size is 11 by 15 inches. The work was hand printed and published by the artist at The Center for Works on Paper in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Please note that this etching is shipped to the collector without a frame or mat. This keeps the price low and allows the collector personal choice in mat selection and framing. A sturdy cardboard box is employed for shipping the work. The etching is first wrapped in two layers of acid free glassine and then placed between two archival boards. This is next placed into the shipping carton and securely packed with bubble wrap. The Absolute Arts Dot Com price includes all handling costs, shipment supplies, and the coast of the shipment box. Mailing costs are added.
