The full title is, THE ARCHANGEL MICHAEL, COVINGTON. This hand pulled etching’s imagery originated from drawings done by the artist of a 2012 photograph, taken in England at The Covington Cathedral. It was printed on a Charles Brand flatbed press at The Center for Works on Paper, which is located on the Fleisher Art School campus in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. Di Falco incorporated the etching techniques of intaglio, and aquatint. Media include a blend of five oil-based etching inks, including one with 24kt Gold on STONEHENGE fawn colored paper. The inks were manufactured in France and the paper in the USA. Five separate nitric acid baths, and consequently, five reworkings were required by Di Falco to arrive at his final design. This is the second best print of five prints in the THIRD of FOUR editions. The image measurements equal six inches wide by nine inches high, or 15.240cm by 22.860 cm. The framed and matted work measures about twelve inches by sixteen inches. This image shows Jacob Epstein’s massive, relief bronze work, which is mounted permanently on Covington Cathedral’s outside wall. It depicts the Archangel Michael standing victorious over the fallen angel named Lucifer. Epstein also carved Oscar Wilde’s gravestone in Paris, as well as the free standing sculpture entitled, SOCIAL CONSCIOUSNESS, which is permanently installed outside The Philadelphia Museum of Art in Pennsylvania.
